Is there anything better than watching a Spitfire and a Mustang fly together? These two Merlin-powered fighters are one of the most iconic aircraft we’ve had during the Second World War.

The Supermarine Spitfire is a Mk. XVI variant – the last major version powered by the famous Merlin engine. In the closing months of the war, these Spitfires were used as fighter bombers against V2 rocket sites all over Europe.

Meanwhile, the other superstar – the P-51D, is powered by a two-speed, two-stage-supercharged Merlin 66.

In the video, we get to see these two stars take off and fly in formation together. Afterward, both planes also performed a solo show, displaying the aircraft’s excellent speeds and flight characteristics.
