Experienced pilots like to show off the skills they have developed over the years, it is only natural. Legendary pilot Bob Hoover had his signature one-wheeled landing that he would perform in his P-51 Mustang “Ole Yeller.” Now it is acceptable to pull off a move like that in an agile fighter plane, but then there are some other planes that shouldn’t even dream about it.
There are a number of factors that may lead to a single-wheeled landing be it external factors or maybe the pilot just isn’t playing it safe. One of those external factors is usually crosswinds which leads the aircraft coming perpendicular for landing often known as “crabbing.” This is done mainly so the plane will be aligned with the runway in order to avoid going off track and to remain as safe as possible.
Some things don’t always go as planned when crosswind landings occur and it makes for some interesting results. This video shows a variety of different aircraft coming in for crosswind landings and just how they deal with these conditions. Not gonna lie, these will have you on the edge of your seat but fortunately, they have skilled pilots behind the wheel.
