The only privately-owned and airworthy MiG-23 in America crashed in Michigan just a few weeks ago. The MiG-23UB was part of the annual Thunder Over Michigan Airshow in Ypsilanti when the plane’s engine suddenly lost power.
The pilot was unable to correct the problem, leading to the crew’s decision to eject mid-flight. According to reports, the pilot suffered serious injuries from ejecting, while the co-pilot only suffered minor injuries.
As for the MiG-23, the aircraft continued to fly out of control until it collided with the ground. The wreckage was found in a parking lot of an apartment complex nearby, where parts were scattered over the lot of about 500 yards.
Fortunately, there were no further injuries reported from the MiG-23’s crash.
