While most “Run and Breaks” usually involve a fast jet, that doesn’t mean colossal giants like the C-17 Globemaster can’t do it. On April 17, 2023, two C-17s from the 99 Squadron stationed at RAF Brize Norton initiated a series of spectacular run and breaks to the amusement of the small crowd.
A run and break is a method of entering a traffic pattern, which involves flying the aircraft at low altitudes above the runway at high speed. At some point, the aircraft is expected to make a break toward the left or right.
The aircraft would then lose speed and prepare for landing as it turns toward the base. In some places, the run and break is most commonly known as the “Initial Approach” or “Overhead Approach”. What do you think about this Globemaster’s run and break?
