Chevrolet’s Colorado ZH-2 is a fuel-cell demonstration vehicle tested by the US Army to evaluate the effectiveness of its type in an off-road setting. It is a concept that incorporates fuel cell technology and its advantages of onboard water production, exportable electric power, and near-silent operations.
Fuel cells can produce electricity by mixing hydrogen and oxygen into water; therefore, it is estimated that these cells can continuously create electricity as long as it has access to those elements.
The pickup truck is reinforced inside and out, with 37-inch tires and specially-modified suspensions to assist it in traversing all kinds of terrain. In addition, the hood houses the power dome that accommodates a transversely-mounted fuel cell stack, while the rear’s clamshell cover lodges the Exportable Power Take-off unit. The unit can power a subdivision, worksite, or a small field hospital for hours if needed.
Not bad for a pickup truck, eh?
