US military officials are currently asking the public for help to find an F-35B Lightning II that has been lost somewhere over South Carolina after its pilot ejected.
According to reports, the Marine Corps pilot was able to safely eject out of the fighter jet over North Charleston this Sunday afternoon after what they only called a “mishap.” The pilot’s name has not been released to the public, but he was taken to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
For now, the military is focusing on Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion as the possible site of the missing F-35B based on its last location and trajectory.
Furthermore, the exact reason as to why the pilot ejected is still under investigation, while the pilot of a second F-35 was able to return safely to base. The planes and its crews were members of the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 based in Beaufort.
