Audacious.

Submarine warfare doesn’t get the attention it deserves, but there is more beneath the surface. But submarine warfare is something that should be taken seriously, especially when it comes to the latest models that have hit the seas. The Royal Navy has released their most massive nuclear submarine to their fleet, the HMS Audacious.

The latest addition to their growing force of Astute-class submarines, the HMS Audacious has just completed a lengthy four-year construction period. Created by BAE systems the Audacious is among the most advanced submarines ever made. The 318 foot-long sub is equipped with Tomahawk missiles capable of hitting precise targets at a distance of 750 miles away.

The Audacious has no need for periscopes because its fiber optic sensors can detect ships in New York City all the way from the United Kingdom 3,000 miles away. It is able to circle the globe without surfacing and can operate for up to 25 years thanks to the power from its nuclear reactor.

The Royal Navy plans to build seven of these massive Astute-class submarines in the years to come, with the HMS Audacious being the fourth to make her debut. So watch as they take the Audacious out into the water to get her toes wet for the first time, she’s pretty big.
