Trouble At Lakenheath

It was supposed to be a fairly normal day at RAF Lakenheath that morning. An F-15E Strike Eagle from the 492nd Fighter Squadron ‘BOLARS’ was slated to take off for a quick climb in front of spectators, but they would soon encounter a problem.

The Strike Eagle managed to take off quite easily – we can even see its afterburners at full blast as it swiftly gained altitude. However, after a few moments, you’ll hear the engines get cut back as it climbs vertically.

According to YouTuber ‘Ted Coningsby,’ the F-15E’s gear was jammed and could not be retracted during flight.

Fortunately, the Strike Eagle and its crew were able to return safely following a smooth landing procedure.

One commenter said it best:

“Of the two possible gear failure conditions…this one is the more favourable!”
