Trucks and Tanks vs Drones

The Germany-based company Rheinmetall unveiled its latest addition to its Air Defence System Group in 2021. Their Skynex Air Defense System comes in the form of a truck equipped with an impressive radar and a 35mm Mk3 revolver gun. 

During combat, its Oerlikon X-TAR3D radar performs short-range searches, detections, tracking, and identification of targets. When ready, it activates its Oerlikon revolver gun with an effective range of 13,000ft and a rate of fire of 1,000rpm.

At the one-minute mark, the Skynex truck can be seen taking down eight drones flying at a far distance while at altitude and high speeds.

Another Rheinmetall design, called the Skyranger, offers the same capabilities but in the shape of a tank. However, unlike Skynex, the Skyranger is designed to also shoot and destroy ground targets at close range.
