YouTuber AmazingViz came up with a list of top ten ugliest planes separated by categories. Here are some of his eye-catching picks:

Reconnaissance

Surprisingly, the U-2 Dragon Lady comes in at 4th in the list. Who would have ever thought that the Dragon Lady was that ugly? Israel’s EL/M-2075 takes the top spot on the list. Its Phalcon system uses six panels of phase-arrayed elements found on each side of the fuselage, in the enlarged nose cone, and under the tail.

Bombers

The B-52 is apparently the ugliest bomber in the world. The long-range subsonic strategic bomber has had its lovely nickname “BUFF” for decades.

Transport

Russia’s Ilyushin Il-76 strategic and tactical airlifter is ranked number 1 on the list. However, one can easily build a case for the British Skyvan (aka the Flying Shoebox) currently at 9th place.

Fighter

The P-61 and A-10 occupy the 3rd and 2nd spot, respectively. Meanwhile, Russia’s Ilyushin Il-40 takes the number one spot.
