Sea mines have proven effective against warships. Its usage started in the 14th century, and its design only improved with the introduction of WWI and WWII.
The program started way back in the 60s, mainly working with bottlenosed dolphins, which are some of the most intelligent mammals in the world.
These dolphins undergo extensive training Sea World could only dream of doing. During their training, they are mostly taught to detect and mark sea mines found on the bottom of the ocean.
Their job doesn’t stop at detecting mines; these very intelligent mammals can also patrol specific waterways to alert the Navy of any anomalies.
Dolphins don’t do all of the hard work. Sea lions are also capable of retrieving objects found on the ocean floor. These mammals can do their jobs faster than a human diver could.
