Storing spare engines wouldn’t be the best use of space since rooms are already quite limited on carriers. Regardless, some carriers do have some spare parts lying around.

If the engines are still repairable, carriers have a lot of engineers and maintenance crews to do the dirty work. However, some are just too far gone to be restored.

USN Simulations

Last year, the US Navy successfully transported a load simulator that matched the weight of an F-35 engine power module. Two helicopters moved the load from USNS Richard E. Byrd to the deck of Nimitz-class carrier USS Carl Vinson.

Vertical Replenishment

The maneuver employed slings descending from a Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma and a CH-53E Super Stallion to lift and transport the 9,350lb simulated weight.
