Launching a brand new submarine can both be hectic and exciting at the same time.
During its launching process, the submarine is placed inside a gated canal or what’s commonly called a dry dock. When in place, the dry dock is pumped with water until the water inside equals the water outside the gate. Once finished, the gate is opened to allow the submarine to exit directly into the open waters.
In some instances, the process is done on platforms that can be lowered beneath the water. This is usually done when the vessel requires maintenance and is in the water already.
With this method, the submarine is escorted into the platform by tugboats working in unison. Afterward, the platform is raised to give the maintenance crews full access to all sections of the vessel.
