RIP Airmen.

On May 2nd, 2018, yet another military aviation tragedy struck in a string of fighter jet and helicopter crashes in the past few months. This time it was a C-130 Hercules, a transport aircraft from Air Transport Wing 156.

According to reports, the aircraft, operated by the Puerto Rico National Guard, took off from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport just before noon. It was on its way to Arizona where it was to be retired.

Shortly after takeoff things went awry. According to eyewitness testimony and the videos news agencies pulled from various cameras from local establishments, it seems like the aircraft portside wing stalled and sent the aircraft into a roll, almost turning completely on its back.

“It just fell out of the sky” were some statements made by witnesses, the aircraft hitting the median of local Highway 21 in Port Wentworth, Georgia. There were no injuries on the ground, however, it’s believed all nine souls onboard perished.

The National Guard did not release the names of the deceased until next of kin are notified.

The incident is under military investigation.
