Transport Turned Attacker

As if the C-130 wasn’t scary enough, Lockheed had to go and attach guns to it to make it look even more terrifying. The AC-130 was a product of the Vietnam War, boasting a night-vision telescope, a forward-looking infrared device, and four miniguns and rotary cannons to boot.

AC-130s carry an array of anti-ground weapons and can deliver them precisely over an area in any weather. Its upgraded avionics allow the aircraft to visually or electrically identify friendlies or enemies in adverse weather conditions.

Today, the latest AC-130H carries a five-barreled rotary cannon, a 40mm Bofors cannon, and a 105mm M102 Howitzer. However, another version of the AC-130H, called the AC-130W Stinger II, carries an even more impressive loadout. The Stinger has a 30mm autocannon and an M102 Howitzer and carries a precision strike package that includes AGM-176s, GBU-44Bs, Hellfires, and more.
